I had to put on the specs and dress to the nines for my interview today at the special needs school in Gateshead. Last year I taught art at this lovely little school in Ivy Lane and this year I have been teaching and assisting as and when they need me. My current role is 'Maths' teacher, which has had me reviewing my algebra skills to the point where I am dreaming of letters, numbers and equal signs and trying to sort out the mess.
So. My interview. The children in one of the primary classes have been learning about business and have started a little venture of their own. This is high level learning, the kind I wish I had had when I was a young person. They sat in a circle, kindly directed me to my chair and thanked me for talking to them about their business. I felt very important, indeed. Their ideas were fabulous and they even deviated from the script and asked lots of very thoughtful questions. Did I like their product? Did I think they were charging a fair price? What were some of my marketing suggestions? Yes! They even said 'marketing'! They also asked where my products were sold...where they were made...and I have quite possibly given a suggestion for an outing that would be particularly fun for them. As I am involved in the Living North Christmas Fair, a place where hundreds of small businesses like myself will be flogging their goods, I think it would be a great treat for them to visit the show.
I shall contact my contacts and see what I can make happen.
